Introductory Video by the Course Teacher
A short video introduction and description of what is in the course.
About The Teacher
Tristan began meditation practice at the age of 14 years old. He was taught the practice of yoga asana in 1985 at school when he was 16 years old. At the age of 19 he travelled to the Himalayas to live in a Mahayana Buddhist monastery where he was trained as a monk. This was really his first introduction to the higher teachings and to the spiritual life. He had his first awakening experience a year later, after a meditation retreat in a Buddhist cave monastery in Thailand. He experienced the awakening of kundalini the following year, in 1991. He was first taught mantra meditation in an ashram in India when he was 26 years old.
Over the next 19 years he continued to study meditation and yoga and travelled to Nepal, Sri Lanka and especially India as often as possible. He continued to study and practice in various ashrams and monasteries.
He now teaches yoga internationally, specializing in the teaching of meditation, pranayama, and the philosophy of yoga.
About the Course
Meditation is the heart of yoga. It is the primary practice used for cultivating inner silence, the witness, peace, bliss and ultimately, liberation. In this five-week course we will be looking at the practice of mantra meditation, which is the most effective form of meditation.
The course begins by introducing the basic practice, and discussing some of the issues that can arise during practice and how to deal with them. Then it goes on to discuss some of the more advanced aspects of meditation, such as the cultivation of the witness, the experience of samadhi and the process of self-realisation.
We will look at two alternative forms of meditation for people who are especially sensitive to mantras: Breathing Meditation and the Passive Awareness Technique.
During the last part of the course, we will be looking at mantra enhancements, where additional syllables are added to the basic mantra. We will also look at the Solar Centrering Technique.
This course is a complete guide to the practice of meditation and can be used by anyone, regardless of the stage they are at on the spiritual path.
Deep Meditation Practice
During the course, you will be introduced to mantra meditation using the AYAM mantra, and will be taught how to use this form of meditation to attain peace, bliss and liberation. The technique itself is very simple, but there are many subtle layers to it.
Advanced Instruction
The course introduces Deep Meditation practice, and so is suitable for beginners on the path, but also covers some of the more advanced aspects of the journey, such as the cultivation of the witness, the rise of samadhi, and the process of Self-realization.
Working with Mantra Enhancements
As the course progresses we will be adding additional mantras that work in different ways within the body and mind.
Self Pacing and Grounding
Self-pacing and grounding are two of the most important aspects of any spiritual practice. During the course we will look at why these things are important and how to use them to bring balance and stability to our practice.
