A description of the course by the teacher
About the Teacher
Tristan began the practice of meditation at the age of 14, and was first taught yoga asana in 1985 at school when he was 16 years old. At the age of 19 he travelled to the Himalayas to live in a Mahayana Buddhist monastery. This was really his first introduction to the higher teachings and to the spiritual life. He had his first awakening experience a year later, after a meditation retreat in a Buddhist cave monastery in Thailand. He experienced the awakening of kundalini the following year, in 1991.
Over the next 19 years he continued to study meditation and yoga and travelled to Nepal, Sri Lanka and especially India as often as possible. He studied and practiced in various ashrams and monasteries.
He began the practice of Spinal Breathing Pranayama in 2005 whilst going through a crown chakra opening.
He now teaches yoga internationally, specializing in the teaching of meditation, pranayama, and the philosophy of yoga.
About the Course
Spinal Breathing Pranayama is one of the most effective forms of pranayama available today. It is a yogic breathing practice that combines the flow of the attention in the body, with the flow of the breath and with visualisation. It is so effective, that many yogis do not use any other form of pranayama.
The practice both prepares the body for the awakening of kundalini, and guides the prana in the body, during the rise of kundalini through the subtle nervous system, once an awakening is happening.
In this way, the practice will safely purify the subtle body, clearing all the energetic pathways (nadis) and chakras of the body.
The practice is designed to be used in combination with a meditation practice, so it is necessary to already have a regular meditation practice in place before beginning this course. If you need to learn a meditation practice, then it is recommended to take the Deep Meditation course before beginning this one.
What's in the Spinal Breathing Pranayama Course?
This four-week course covers the practice of spinal breathing pranayama, including:
• How to integrate Spinal Breathing with a daily meditation practice
• How to work with the process of kundalini in an effective way
• Using an alternative form of pranayama when necessary

• A detailed description of the major chakras in the subtle body
• The importance of self-pacing and grounding
Spinal Breathing Pranayama Practice
The course includes full instructions on the Spinal Breathing Pranayama practice including the additions, and working with subtle aspects of the practice that can arise.
Advanced Aspects of the Practice
As well as covering basic instruction in the practice of Spinal Breathing, we will also look at some of the intermediate stages of the practice, such as the rise of ecstasy in the body, and the production of amrita. We will also look at some of the more advanced aspects, including the transformations to consciousness that arise due to this ecstatic process.
Work Effectively and Safely with Kundalini
Kundalini is the energetic transformation of the body that takes place during a spiritual awakening. Spinal Breathing Pranayama plays an important role in preparing the body for an awakening and in guiding the energies involved in an awakening once it is happening. During the course we will look at this process and at how we can navigate it in a way that is safe and effective.
Self Pacing and Grounding
Self-pacing and grounding are two of the most important aspects of any journey of yoga. During the course we will look at why these things are important and how to use them to bring balance and stability to our practice.
