An introductory video with the teacher

Devrim Zahir

Hello and welcome to the AYP Academy. My name Is Devrim Zahir, I have been an AYP practitioner and teacher for over 10 years. I will be your guide throughout this online pranayama program: “Cultivating the soil of your nervous System”.

Over the years, I have immersed myself in the study and exploration of yoga, and it brings me great joy to share this transformative path with you.

My yoga journey began over two decades ago when I discovered the profound impact it had on my physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. I have since trained extensively in various yoga disciplines, including Hatha, Vinyasa, and Ayurveda. I am also a certified Wim Hof method instructor and Freediving teacher trainer, which allows me to offer a multi-pronged approach to yoga that nurtures and supports each individual's unique needs. My teaching style is rooted in movement, breath, integration and experimentation.

I believe in creating a safe and inclusive space where students can explore and deepen their practice at their own pace. I am committed to providing clear and detailed instructions, ensuring that you feel supported and empowered throughout your yoga journey.

About the Course

In this program we will learn how to use the breath to influence prana, or energy (life force), to move along certain pathways in our body for the purpose of purification and opening of the nervous system so that something deep inside of us can awaken and set us on road to freedom. Using the ancient yogic method of pranayama, we will systematically develop our practices, as well as our knowledge of pranayama, in a safe and progressive manner, using the fundamental AYP practices of Self-Pacing and Bhakti. Self-pacing and Bhakti will be discussed in each of the 21 lessons so that we can develop a powerful pranayama practice covering all the pranayama practices that are offered in the AYP writings. All of these pranayamas are covered in the AYP writings but this is the first time that the information will be given in video format. It is a comprehensive guide to the following pranayamas:

  • Spinal Breathing Pranayama
  • Full Yogic Breath (Dirgha Pranayama)
  • Ujjayi Pranayama
  • Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana Pranayama)
  • Yoni Mudra Kumbhaka
  • Chin Pump (Dynamic Jalandhara)
  • Spinal Bhastrika Pranayama, Kapalabhati Pranayama
  • Heart Breathing
  • Targeted Bhastrika
  • Bhramari Pranayama
  • Yoni Spinal Breathing
  • Yoni Chin Pump

as well as the following mudras and bandhas:

  • Shambhavi Mudra
  • Kechari Mudra
  • Mulabandha
  • Uddiyana Bandha
  • Whole Body Mudra

and the advanced sitting posture called:

  • Siddhasana

All these practices are given in a progressive order so that the practitioner can develop a safe and effective sadhana, or spiritual practice. We will not only learn how to practice each of these but also how to ingrate them into a powerful ‘full strength’ sitting practice.

Self-Pacing and Grounding

Throughout the course, clear instructions are given on how to progress safely and remain grounded, as we progress through the practices taught, adding each practice gradually over time.

Meditation practice as a pre-requisite

for taking this course

Meditation practice is a prerequisite for taking this course. Before beginning this course on pranayama you will need to have a regular meditation practice in place which cultivates inner silence. This is importance as inner silence brings balance and equanimity. The pranayama practices taught in this course are powerful and inner silence provides long-term stability. If you do not already have a meditation practice and would like to learn one, there is a 5-week course on Deep Meditation in this Academy. See the link to that course at the bottom of this page.

Testimonial

"These lessons bring the AYP pranayama instructions to life, working the student through the material in a comprehensive and step-by-step progression. Each lesson is followed by a practice session, often with more instruction, which builds on the previous lesson... I think this course is a really valuable contribution to what’s currently available on pranayama. It makes learning pranayama feel easy."
